Most people in the developed world may now spend a lot more of their time indoors than out, but that doesn’t mean outdoor advertising doesn’t have plenty to offer your business.
‘Does outdoor advertising still work?’ is a question that many business owners ask themselves, but the answer to that, despite what you may have heard, is ‘Yes, it still does.’ From outdoor banners to billboards, posters to skywriting, a variety of outdoor advertising techniques are still being used to great effect the world over.
And although you may – like most business owners today it would seem – have fallen in love with social media marketing, there are still some areas in which it’s just not as effective as outdoor advertising. Like when you’re driving down the road and a perfectly designed banner or attention-grabbing billboard catches your eye.
Why It Still Works
Unlike social media and other forms of ‘inbound marketing’, outdoor advertising doesn’t require you to do anything to access it. You can walk down the road, drive down the street, or glance up whilst eating lunch in a park and be captivated by a great image or a well-worded sales pitch that draws you in.
In a world that is increasingly governed by the personal choices we make, outdoor advertising operates in an area that we have little control over. But unlike television or radio advertising that we also have little control over, besides turning them off, it’s not considered to be as intrusive as other advertising mediums.
What’s more, a lot of outdoor advertising works by engaging the consumer, providing a touch of colour that would otherwise be missing from a bland highway or a boring concrete wall that looks the same as every other highway or concrete wall.
It’s Something Different
Outdoor advertising has become something very different from other forms of advertising and not only inbound marketing methods like social media marketing. Having said that, it does tend to use similar techniques to capture the attention of passers-by, like the use of high resolution images, and it also works best when strong calls to action are employed.
But outdoor advertising is different because it’s used outdoors and the environments in which they’re placed often give them a more prominent effect. For instance, when an eye-catching banner or poster is hung from a wall, it stands out and gets noticed, and as it’s more permanent, it therefore isn’t here one moment and gone the next.
Outdoor Advertising is Cost Effective
Whether you have a big advertising budget to work with or you have long struggled to set aside something for advertising and marketing, you’re sure to find outdoor advertising materials, like durable weatherproof banners, to be very cost effective.
Outdoor advertising materials also represent great ROI. Consequently, any business looking to create a buzz around their products or services, or simply alert passers-by to the fact that they have a sale on, will find high-quality weatherproof banners to be an excellent choice for their advertising needs.
