Years of effort to reach your financial goals may have imbued you with a sense of flexibility when it comes to how to achieve those financial goals. While you may have thought early on you would become a Wall Street pro, perhaps you realized it might be better to invest in a few Certificates of Deposit. You might have thought you could earn $100 thousand dollars per year at a top-paying job, then realized it is going to take a little more effort outside of traditional employment to reach that income goal. At the same time, all of that attention on your financial goals may have left your body feeling a little bit raw.
If you managed to pay close attention to your body’s needs during these years of financial struggle, good on you. But most of us tend to emphasize our financial well-being over our physical well-being. We end up with bodies that feel 10 years older than they actually are. The good news is that this is reversible. Unlike your financial success, this is something you do want to dial back the clock on. Getting your body back into shape does not mean you need to give up any of your financial success either, quite the contrary. When you finally get your body loosened up, you will feel more energized than you have in years, ready to re-dedicate yourself to your work.
Getting your body back into shape after all these years of inactivity is a monumental task, but can easily be achieved if you start small and take baby steps. While yoga can be something for the experts, it is also an easy way to work your way into daily exercise. Start by stretching different muscle groups. This will increase your blood flow and get your metabolism moving. Next, start working your way up to a regular class. It is important to go to at least a few classes. Space them out by a week at a time if you feel like you do not have enough time for this activity.
The important thing is to go semi-regularly so that you can receive coaching from a professional. Yoga, like any sport, can be practiced improperly and damage your body. Now that you are on the way to physical flexibility, keep your financial options open and use your new energy to pursue new possibilities.
